Where Can I Stay in Minnesota in Winter?

by Tori

Our family has visited Minnesota in summer. It seems like all the things to do there have something to do with the lakes...boating, fishing, water-skiing, etc.

You say on some pages that your state is a "four seasons" vacation spot. So I need answers to a few questions:

What is there to do in winter for a family with four children? Two are teens and the others are younger.

Are very many of your hotels and cabins open in winter?

If we want to do a road trip across part of the state, are the roads often blocked by snow? Is it safe to drive across Minnesota in winter?

Some of our decisions will depend on what we learn from you and other websites. Our plan is not definite but we think we will come after Christmas.

Thanks for you help.

Winter Family Vacations

Hi Tori –

Minnesota is indeed a four-seasons vacation destination. Right now we are gearing up for those who are coming to view the state in its autumn splendor.

Minnesota is also a perfect vacation destination in winter. Here is a link to just some of our winter vacation ideas. As you can see, our ski resorts, dog-sled tours, winter festivals are all wonderful for families that include teens and young children

Almost all of Minnesota’s hotels, resorts, and bed and breakfast inns are open all winter. Here is a link to explore more about lodging in Minnesota.

You can safely travel across the state during winter; roads are rarely blocked. The type of winter storm that would do that does not happen often. As with any trip, staying aware of weather is a good idea. Here is a page of winter driving safety tips.

Please do plan to enjoy our winter wonderland!

Best Regards
