No place outside of New York City has more theater seats per capita than does Minneapolis. Just a few of the nearly 100 stages in the city include:

  • The Guthrie Theater: This Tony award winning theater was founded by Sir Tyrone Guthrie in 1963. You will experience creative presentations of both contemporary and classic plays.
  • The Children's Theater Company: has also received a Tony award for its adaptation of classic children's stories.
  • The State, Orpheum and Pantages theaters opened between 1916 and 1921 as vaudeville theaters and are now restored to their former glory.

Minneapolis Art and Theater

Minnesota Museums: Museums in Minneapolis include several major art museums and many others.

Minnesota Art: Top dance companies appear at several venues in Minneapolis including Northrop Memorial Auditorium on the University of Minnesota campus, McGuire Theater at the Walker Art Center and the James Sewell Ballet.

For classical music go to Orchestra Hall to hear the Minnesota Orchestra and the Minnesota Chorale.

Summer outdoor concerts and films can be enjoyed in Peavey Plaza on the Nicollet Mall, at St. Anthony Main, in Loring Park and at the Lake Harriet Bandshell.

If you love film art and entertainment, there are two Minnesota Film Arts theaters that are managed by the University of Minnesota: Bell Auditorium at 10 Church Street and Oak Street Cinema at 309 Oak Street S.E. You can sometimes see independant films at the Walker Art Center. Other iconic movie theaters in Minneapolis include:
