Minnesota Visitor, Issue #15--Ready For Christmas

I'm Ready For Christmas

Over the years, Christmas at our home has become less about the gifts and more about the love. There is a beautiful song titled "Love Came Down at Christmas" that speaks to this.

There have already been some meaningful gatherings of friends and family with more to come. The Christmas program at church is this Sunday...always a highlight. There is also a holiday concert I am anticipating.

Last evening we drove through the holiday lights display at Phalen Park in our neighborhood while listening to Christmas music on the radio.

Despite the focus on relationship over gift giving, there are some people for whom I really do want to get something. Grandchildren for sure.

I've procrastinated until today and now I've finished. Here's how.

  • I went to and ordered gifts for grandchildren out of state and had them shipped directly to them.
  • I logged in to Sears online and found a couple of things for my husband like a flannel shirt and some wool socks for the ice fishing days coming up.
  • I then went to the Kmart online store and bought a few stocking stuffers and small "extras." Both Kmart and Sears will deliver my purchases to my home for free.
Both Sears and Kmart have online discount offers and free shipping offers.

Last on my list are a few people who I really want to remember in at least a small way during the holidays. Co-workers and people who offer us a service (like trash-hauling, etc.) through the year are those I would like to gift. These can be the most difficult gifts to find.

I discovered Amazon Gift Cards and decided they were perfect. I can print them and enclose them in a card or I can even email them directly to the recipient. They are available in many denominations. Our best wishes to you and your family this season.

Lyrics to Love Came Down At Christmas:

Love came down at Christmas,
Love all lovely, love divine;
Love was born at Christmas,
Star and angels gave the sign.

Worship we the Godhead,
Love incarnate, love divine;
Worship we our Jesus:
But wherewith for sacred sign?

Love shall be our token,
Love be yours and love be mine,
Love to God and all men,
Love for plea and gift and sign.
