Winter on the North Shore

The North Shore of Lake Superior is often thought of as a summer paradise. However winter is also a great time to enjoy the North Shore. Things look very different so even if you know the North Shore well, you will have a whole other experience in winter.

One of our favorite things to do is snowshoeing the hiking trails along the North Shore. We also love to go downhill skiing at Lutsen or Spirit Mountain, or cross country skiing in the state parks and national forest trails.

For those who like snowmobiling there are lots of snowmobile trails along the north shore. We soemtimes just drive the roads, like the Gunflint Trail, etc to see them with snow.

Don't worry about where to stay. Minnesota hotels and cabins usually offer year-round lodging and there are lots fewer people around so it's easy to find a place to stay. You can often get really good deals on these places as well because it is considered the "off season."

You are so right!

The North Shore is a wonderful destination in summer but it is equally beautiful in winter. Different landscapes/seascapes and lots of winter activites available. Hotels and cabins are always ready for winter visitors.
