Winter Fun in Minnesota?

Here's my question...We love to come to Minnesota for summer vacations but have never come in winter. I know, from what I hear and read, that there is lots to do in Minnesota in winter.

However, since this will be the first time my family and I have been to Minnesota in winter, I want to give us the best winter experience we can have.

My kids have never played in the snow...so that is one goal. None of us has ever done any winter sports, but are willing to learn something if it doesn't require weeks of lessons (we won't be there that long).

So, could we have some suggestions about where to stay for family fun; what we could try or participate in for a "real" Minnesota winter adventure?

Hoping for lots of ideas.

Oh....we will likely come during Christmas vacation if that helps.
