Locations throughout Cook County will be the site of the Volks Ski Fest, Saturday, January 31 through Sunday, February 8, 2009. This new family-oriented ski event features a snowshoe scavenger hunt, ski trips with a naturalist, guided snowshoe hikes, a presentation on the best ski trails in North America, horse-drawn sleigh rides, candlelight skis, bonfires and s’mores, live music, a Mongolian firepot buffet, winter barbeque, dogsled rides, naturalist presentation, a waxing clinic, and more! Pick up a card at one of the visitor’s centers, track your progress on the trails, and turn them in at the end of your stay and potentially win some prizes!
