Travel to Minnesota with small children

by Kris
(Aberdeen, SD)

We are taking a family vacation to Minnesota this summer. Probably in July. We have 3 children ages, 7, 9 and 11. We're driving to Minnesota from South Dakota and will have about 5 days.

What are some, not too expensive, ideas for what to see, where to stay, what activities kids of these ages would enjoy?

Thanks for any help you can offer to us.

I love your site.

Alexandria/ Osakis area
by: Dave Erickson

If your travels will take you thru the Central part of Minnesota, Alexandria and Osakis offers quite a few options for families. And if you like getting up close to a real farm with lots of animals and birds, without being a "Tourist Trap", then check out our place.

Erickson's Petting Zoo of Osakis, Mn. offers the chance to see and feed many different animals: pygmy goats, lamb, llamas, alpacas, miniature horses, miniature mule, fallow deer, calves, rabbits and kittens. Birds: colored chickens, ducks, geese, turkey, colored pheasants and pigeons.

We have a bunny land were the bunnies are in a pen you go into. Giant Goat Walk for climbing goats to explore. Large playground with a maze and swings-n-slides. Bounce House and a indoor playshed. All of this for $5.00 per person. If we have enough personnel, pony rides are $3.00 each.
(We also work off the farm, plus our regular farm work, so pony rides aren't always available.)
