Temperance River State Park

by Robert
(Twin Cities, MN)

Temperance River Gorge

Temperance River Gorge

They say that the Temperance River got its name because it is the only river along the North Shore without a sand "bar" at its mouth!

Temperance River State Park is one of our favorite Minnesota state parks. We get a campsite right on the shore of Lake Superior, go rock climbing and climb up the gorge by the river. There are beautiful rushing falls there. Farther upstream, the water is calm, and many locals swim in the pools.
