Park Rapids Minnesota
Park Rapids Minnesota is often called "the gateway to Itasca State Park." The park, location of the headwaters to the Mississippi River, is one of the most visited parks in the state and has certainly contributed to the popularity of the Park Rapids area.
With a population of just around 3,000, Park Rapids can, in some ways, feel like a step back to an earlier time. The downtown has extra wide streets that feature center-of-the-street parking that was put in place to accomodate the wide u-turns required by ox carts in logging days.

Some of the downtown Park Rapids eateries and hangouts are the same places we "hung out" as teens in the '50s. Wimpy's Cafe and the Minnesoda Shop have been there "forever."
