Home of Honored Veterans in Appleton MN

by Shala Korstjens
(Appleton, MN)

Thielke, Miles, Behl, Schlieman, Sorenson….the list goes on. Appleton will never forget its fallen war heroes.

On May 21, 1947 Appleton renamed its streets in honor of the World War II soldiers who gave their lives. Since then other war heroes from the Korean, the Vietnam, and Opertaion Freedom wars have been added.

Appleton is the only town in the country with all of its 34 streets and avenues named after fallen war heroes. Appleton is the only city in America to have all of its streets named after fallen heroes.

It's a small world
by: Anonymous

My brother was a combat photographer in the 5th army, world War II. Looking through hundreds of photographs recently, preparing to put them in a book, I came across a photo of one Marvin Smith, from Appleton, Minnesota. If Mr. Smith or anyone in his family would like to have this photo please contact me.

The picture is of Mr. Smith carrying a little girl to an Arno River ferry boat.

My name is Laura Manning
