Duluth Minnesota is a port city on Lake Superior, the body of water Minnesotans call "our inland sea." Duluth is the fourth largest city in Minnesota. The Aerial Lift Bridge is one of Duluth's most famous landmarks.

  • Sit on the rocks in the dark and watch for shooting stars. You may even see the Northern Lights.
  • University of Minnesota Duluth/Outdoor Program: UMD offers most of their outdoor programs to the general public. They have sea or whitewater kayaking courses and their climbing programs include indoor wall climbing, outdoor climbing, ice climbing and climbing for girls and women. Winter Fun in Duluth

  • John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon, Duluth to Grand Portage, Minnesota: At almost 400 miles, the Beargrease is the longest sled dog race in the lower 48 of the United States. 2009 Race - January 25 - 29
  • Fitger's Annual Northwoods Snowshoe Championships includes a marathon race, a half marathon and a 10km race. Competitors range in age between 9 and 79.

Duluth Festivals and Events

  • Grandma's Marathon: Duluth's annual celebration of running, entertainment, food and activities for the whole family.
  • The Homegrown Music Festival: Duluth's annual showcase of local bands. It happens every year during the first week of May.

  • Bayfront Blues Festival: in early August is Minnesota's largest Outdoor Blues Festival featuring international, national and regional music acts.
