- University of Minnesota Duluth/Outdoor Program: UMD offers most of their outdoor programs to the general public. They have sea or whitewater kayaking courses and their climbing programs include indoor wall climbing, outdoor climbing, ice climbing and climbing for girls and women. Winter Fun in Duluth
- John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon, Duluth to Grand Portage, Minnesota: At almost 400 miles, the Beargrease is the longest sled dog race in the lower 48 of the United States. 2009 Race - January 25 - 29
- Fitger's Annual Northwoods Snowshoe Championships
includes a marathon race, a half marathon and a 10km race. Competitors range in age between 9 and 79.

- Grandma's Marathon:
Duluth's annual celebration of running, entertainment, food and activities for the whole family.
- The Homegrown Music Festival:
Duluth's annual showcase of local bands. It happens every year during the first week of May.
- Bayfront Blues Festival:
