Minnesota Visitor, Issue #33 - Minnesota Bucket List - Walk Across A River

High on our Minnesota Bucket List is walking across the Mississippi River. While not suggesting you can walk on water, you can walk, or wade, across Minnesota’s Mighty Mississippi River.

The Mississippi River flows from Lake Itasca in Itasca State Park.

Generations of Minnesotans have enjoyed the beauty in our oldest state park and the traditional walk across the, sometimes slippery, rocks at the headwaters.

Most of us have fallen into the water as well. The river is very shallow here so there is little danger to adventurers.

Visiting Itasca State Park can be much more than a visit to the headwaters. Reserve a room in famous Douglas Lodge, swim in Lake Itasca, camp in the campgrounds, enjoy the tall pines as you drive the miles of roads.

Visit the nearby towns of Bemidji and Park Rapids
